Bet Awards 09

Ok Im going on very little sleep but I wanted to jot some of
my reactions to last nights BET Awards.

Jamie Foxx did a great job hosting, hes one of my favorite entertainers, soo talented. He killed his performance with Travis Barker and T-pain too.

I love Keri Hilson but I thought she had one of the weakest performances of the night.

Beyonce can sang.

I don't have to say what the least exciting performance of the night was but lets just say it was the one were some kid performed a chorus 24 times and called it a song.

Young Money was a disappointment but mainly cuz I heard wayne say two words through BETs shotty attempts at censorship. Isn't that what rehearsals for?

smh at Birdman to high to remember his "lyrics"

JAY Z killed the show and I heard he took Chris Browns place or something like. Too be honest, I didn't need to see a Chris Brown MJ tribute. His whole damn career to this point has been a tribute to Micheal. And I pretty sure he actually did a shoutout to Mike at the World Music Awards and hes done it in live shows

. Plus, they can't reward Chris Brown after what he gets a slap on the wrist for beating up Rihanna. That wouldn't be a good look for BET. Trust me, well see Chris Brown on the BET awards again...maybe.

Not gonna hate on T-Pain cuz he really is killing the game now even though he was sporting some slave chains.

Why did the O'Jays sound better than all the other R&B groups who performed ?

Beyonce can sang.

Drake needs to work on his stage presence but hes a cool dude..

Monica made Keyshia Cole look like an amateur.

Did I mention Beyonce can sang.

Overall they did a great job paying tribute to Micheal Jackson, a legend who passed way before his time and who will be remembered for ever. He should inspire artists to really work on their craft. Lets make timeless music.

Hip Hop Draft

With the NBA draft upon us, I started thinking ....

What if I was going to pick a starting five of hip hop artists of all time. Who
would I pick and what position.

Point Guard - Dr Dre

Why?

Pretty much spawned the careers of the biggest hip hop artists (Eminem/Snoop/50
Cent) of the last 14 years. He made like 35 million last year without even dropping album, in fact he hasn't dropped an album in 8 years yet he has the most highly anticipated release of this year; thats buzz you couldn't dream of. I wouldn't pick anybody else to run the show.

Guard- Jay-Z

Why?

The MJ of rap. Undoubtedly the most accomplished MC when it comes to business saavy, quality of his music and his ability to 'crossover' to the main stream and still stay true to himself. If the games on the line, I want Jay with the Roc.

Small Forward-Andre 3000
<

Why?
The most creative hip-hop artist of his era. First MC to really step outside of the Hip Hop comfort zone and make it work. Now every MC wants to sing or play a guitar or do something 'outside the box'. 3k did that; make no mistake. Really a playmaker , that's what you need out of a good swingman.

Power Forward- Nas

Why?
Powerful Lyrics. The way this man writes always makes me think about my position as a black man in this country and how I should define myself as the future continues to roll on.
He really is the only MC I can say consistently challenges me to think and still brings the heat lyrically. Some MCs can get preachy and Nas just spits that Real Shit; point blank period. If you haven't listened to 'Nigger' yet, youre missing out.

Center- Tupac

Solid and Prolific. What else can you ask out of your center, the backbone of the team, always going hard in the paint, even when the rest ain't. Tupac Shakur is a legend and his body of work was cut short by his tragic death. Can you imagine if he had ten more years in the game? Scary....

6th Man- Lil Wayne

This man does not lack energy and if I wanted to inject some life into the squad, I'm putting this guy on the team. Could you imagine a track with all these guys on it , produced by Dre. Can you imagine an ALBUM? Ha. A man can dream . Who would you pick?

Breakfast Burrito

I'm pretty hungover right now. In celebration of the Lakers 15th and Kobes first Championship without the Shaq Shadow Effect I threw back a few too many last night. Listening to this song on repeat is at least helping. Download this song now, its infectious and not in the itchy kind of way. Mos also did a really great interview with XXL recently you should read. Real talk.

Auditiorium (Feat. Slick Rick) - Mos Def

Congratulations

Kanye 'Spaceship' Video

Spaceship from kwest on Vimeo.

This is by far my favorite Kanye West song. I can’t really front, when I first heard this song it not only changed the way I looked at my life, but also how I thought about hip-hop music. Kanye just released this video today even though the song is from The College Dropout. My favorite part is when he moonwalks out of the mall. Yeezy!
